|2009 - The Ereg Family|
Sadia Ereg and her family moved to Denver from Africa ten years ago after enduring many years of moving from one tumultuous country to the next. Sadia’s 17-year old son and 20-year old niece still remember having to constantly move around in Africa, and have experienced more of the same with apartment rentals in the US. Sadia works hard to give her family a good life in Denver, and has worked as a case manager for the Somalian Community Center of Colorado for more than a year.
The Ereg family currently lives in Section 8 housing in North Denver. The family of three shares a small 2-bedroom apartment – which doesn’t leave enough room for each of them to have personal space. Their neighborhood has a lot of crime and their monthly rent is very expensive. Sadia feels the financial pinch each month, especially as utility and transportation costs continue to increase.
Sadia is so excited to own her own home and calls it a “dream come true”. She knows that constantly moving is difficult on her son and niece. Owning her own home will provide her family with a stable living environment and will allow Sadia to invest in something that she can pass on to her son and keep in the family for generations to come.
Sadia’s niece and son are looking forward to having their own bedrooms, not having to change school districts and never having to move again. Sadia has already been hard at work on her sweaty equity hours and has worked on a half dozen construction sites. She really enjoys working with Habitat volunteers and other partner families. Although she enjoys helping build other Habitat homes, she can’t wait to start working on her own home.
Sadia’s so appreciative to be partnering with Habitat for Humanity and to work with so many volunteers and donors. She especially extends her thanks to her home sponsor, the Habitat Interfaith Alliance, “God helps people who help each other. Thank you all for giving us a hand.”
The Ereg home was finished in August 2009
